Abstract

This study examined family peace as a predictor of emotional and psychological development among youths in the United States. The study specifically investigated the relationship between family peace and emotional development, the influence of family peace on psychological development, and the contribution of peaceful family relationships to emotional stability and psychological wellbeing among youths. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design. The population of the study consisted of 4,860 youths selected from universities, counselling centres, youth empowerment agencies, and nongovernmental organizations across selected states in the United States. A sample size of 370 respondents was determined using the Taro Yamane sampling formula, while 352 completed questionnaires were returned and used for data analysis. Data were collected using a structured instrument titled Family Peace and Youth Development Questionnaire (FPYDQ) administered electronically and physically. The instrument was validated by experts, while reliability testing using Cronbach Alpha produced a coefficient value of 0.84. Mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions, while simple linear regression analysis was used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 significance level. Findings revealed that family peace significantly influenced emotional development, psychological development, emotional stability, and psychological wellbeing among youths in the United States. The study concluded that peaceful family relationships positively predict healthy emotional and psychological outcomes among youths. The study recommended that parents, educational institutions, counsellors, and social organizations should promote peaceful family interactions and emotional support systems for sustainable youth development.
