Enhancing Political Awareness and Critical Media Literacy Through Social Media-Based Learning Among Senior High School Learners
Abstract
This study examined the effectiveness of social media-based learning in enhancing political awareness and critical media literacy among 30 Senior High School learners at Ambaguio High School. Employing classroom-based action research with a one-group pretest–posttest design, the intervention incorporated political content analysis, fact-checking exercises, source credibility evaluation, and guided discussions. Illustrative results showed an increase in mean scores from 13.20 (pretest) to 23.40 (posttest), indicating improved political awareness and critical media literacy. The simulated paired-samples t-test indicated a statistically significant difference (p < .001). These preliminary illustrations suggest that structured social media-based learning may strengthen learners' critical thinking, information evaluation, and responsible digital citizenship. Actual data collection and analysis are necessary to establish the intervention's effectiveness in this educational setting.
