ACCOUNTING POLICIES, ESTIMATES AND ERRORS (IAS 8), REVENUE RECOGNITION, (IAS 15), CORPORATE REPORTING AND TRANSPARENCY
Abstract
This paper provides a comprehensive examination of the foundational principles and regulatory frameworks governing corporate financial reporting. It covers four interconnected areas: the preparation of company financial accounts in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS); the application of IAS 8 concerning accounting policies, changes in accounting estimates, and errors; revenue recognition under IFRS 15 (formerly IAS 18); and the broader imperatives of corporate reporting and transparency. Financial statements constitute the primary vehicle through which companies communicate their financial position and performance to stakeholders. The integrity of these statements depends critically on consistent application of accounting policies, proper treatment of changes and errors (IAS 8), and faithful recognition of revenue (IFRS 15). Together, these standards form the backbone of a transparent, comparable, and decision-useful financial reporting ecosystem. This paper analyses each domain in depth, drawing on regulatory texts, academic literature, and illustrative examples.
