Abstract

This study aimed to establish a proof that lack of teachers' motivaton was a tool for poor academic performance of secondary school students in Oron Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. There were four research questions and four null hypotheses formulated. The study used descriptive survey design. 920 Secondary School teachers in all 20 public and private, formed the population from the which 200 were selected through sampling technique for the study. Data were collected from 200 copies of questionnaire administered and analysed by using Chi-square test for the hypothesis at 0.05 alpha level of significant. The instrument's reliability was tested with the formula of Kuder and Richardson and the reliability coefficient was 0.74. The result of data analysis rejected all null hypotheses proving that; lack of teachers' motivation acted as a tool for woeful academic performance of students. Thus, for the good of nation building, this work recommends that, teachers must be adequately motivated to spice up their effectiveness for high productivity, to advance their professional career and minimize labor turnover
