UNE ANALYSE LEXICO-SEMANTIQUE DES HOMONYMES EN LANGUE IJAW:LE CAS DU DIALECTE MÉÌN

Abstract

The objective of this study is to carry out a lexico-semantic analysis of homonyms in the Ijaw language, in particular the Méìn dialect. The method used for data collection is documentary research and the collection tool is the questionnaire. Data was collected from a group of
50 native speakers, ranging in age from 18 to 50, of both sexes. The analysis reveals that the Méìn dialect contained a wide variety of homonyms. Words with different meanings have been listed and classified according to their meaning. Homonyms play a very important role in the communication process. It is necessary to decipher the context of conversations to fully understand their real meaning. Speakers often use metaphors and strategies in their conversations to overcome linguistic ambiguity. In conclusion, the study indicates that it is important to take into account the role of homonyms in communication in any language:
